Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a three-tiered, proactive approach used to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. At Whetstone, PBIS is a school-wide program of Behavioral Expectations based on The Whetstone Way:
Have Integrity
Give Compassion
Show Respect
The 3 elements of The Whetstone Way provide a foundation on which to build desired student behaviors in the Classroom, Hallways, Cafeteria, or Bathroom:
When teachers see a student exemplifying one of these desired behaviors, they can submit a Student Shout-Out to recognize the student and their behavior. Students can accumulate Shout-Outs and redeem them for rewards in the PBIS store.

In January 2025, many WHS students were interviewed and asked various PBIS-related questions, including "What is integrity?", "How can you show compassion?", and "Can you respect someone that you disagree with?".
Their responses were insightful, fun, and amazing! Check out this TikTok-style video to see their answers and opinions!
